Lauretta Frederking
Associate Vice-Provost (School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies) and Professor, Political Science
With more than 25 years of teaching and research experience, Lauretta is an accomplished researcher and educator with a disciplinary focus grounded in comparative politics and the themes of immigration, sustainability, and social justice. Lauretta holds a BA from the University of Toronto (Political Science), MA from Columbia University (Political Science), and a PhD from Washington University in St. Louis (Political Science).
Research Interest/Specialization
Professor Frederking’s research lies primarily within the realm of comparative politics, with specific interests in the interactions between political context and sustainability, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
Teaching
Lauretta brings extensive leadership experience and knowledge of the evolving higher education landscape to Western, most recently within the Office of the Provost where she has co-created a three-day Academic Leadership Accelerator Program as well as a strengths-based program for student-athletes.

Susan Lewis
Vice-Provost (Academic Programs) and Professor, Don Wright Faculty of Music

Research Interest/Specialization
Susan is known for her interdisciplinary approach to research on topics such as music and culture, the arts and technology, creativity, and the history of the culture industry. She has authored four books and supported student research for over 25 years.
Teaching
Susan has taught courses on music, the arts, art and technology, and popular culture.

Jamie Baxter
Associate Vice Provost in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and Professor, Faculty of Social Science
Professor Jamie Baxter is a social environmental health geographer at Western who studies how people perceive potentially harmful technology (e.g., hazardous waste, wind turbines, cosmetic pesticides). His teams have produced internationally recognized work that interrogates why various groups of people view the same hazards/technologies differently. His studies integrate qualitative and quantitative methods to understand the social construction of risk, environmental justice, renewable energy transitions, facility siting, and environmental policies. He currently serves as Associate Vice Provost in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and has been involved at many levels in the University’s governance.
Research Interest/Specialization
I am a social scientist interested in a variety of topics including: environmental risks from hazards, community responses to technological hazards, environmental inequities, environment and health, geography of health, noxious facility siting, and methodology.
